About the role:


The purpose of the role is to help ensure retention and achievement of students receiving Group Learning Support across Reading College, within Lifeskills Faculty.


Liaising with the Delivery Manager for Berkshire, Team Leaders, Faculty Manager and Faculty delivery team for Lifeskills and external agencies, you will help to ensure that students with learning support and other care needs are adequately provided for, and the team is trained to meet these needs.


You will assist in the assessment process of students with learning difficulties and disabilities in order to accurately identify their learning support needs, which may include assessing students in schools and other providers, writing support plans and completing transition activities. Lead and manage Learning Support Assistants with the support of Team Leader to ensure that training, probationary periods, appraisals, developmental observations and absence reporting process is completed.


You will help to ensure that college staff and resources are deployed efficiently with timetabling and duty rota’s, provide adequate cover and support the Deliver Manager for Berkshire and Team Leader to recruit and interview new LSA staff.


This is a permanent, term time only role (0.88 FTE) working 8.30am – 5pm, finishing at 4.30pm on a Friday.


What do you need to be a Senior Learning Support Assistant at Activate Learning?


You will have sound knowledge of learning difficulties and disabilities and learner behavioural problem and will understand the need for a student-centred approach and ability to offer varying support strategies to cover diverse learning needs.


With excellent communication and organisation skills, you will be a role model of professionalism with the ability to develop and sustain good working relationships with internal and external customers. You will be able to work independently and demonstrate flexibility contributing to the team’s effectiveness and be able to react to organisational change quickly and positively. E-literate and competent IT and administration skills are essential.
