Our busy catering operation at South Stack Nature Reserve is looking for a catering assistant to join the team to work for 16 hours a week until the end of September. We are looking for an individual who is able to deliver the highest standards in customer care and assist with the day-to-day running of the café operation, in line with set RSPB procedures and routines.

You will need to be available to work during the day (no evenings). This can be an extremely busy period.  We have various shifts available, and the role involves working most weekends and Bank holidays.  Additional hours may be available.

What’s the role about?

You will be based at RSPB South Stack Cliffs Visitor Centre in Holyhead, Anglesey. *You will need your own transport or be able to access the location easily as it’s a little off the beaten track.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and flexible person to work in our busy café, making sure visitors enjoy our locally-sourced, delicious food and drink. You will need to be able to deliver the highest standards of customer care.

Previous experience working in catering would be very useful, but if you have a willingness to learn, work hard and roll up your sleeves to help nature we want to hear from you.  Basic hygiene training will be provided.

A typical shift will involve taking customer orders, clearing tables, keeping the café clean and tidy, serving customers, and operating the tills.

What we need from you

You will be responsible for maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors and delivering the highest standards of customer service at all times.

Essential:

  • Enthusiastic approach to work,
  • High understanding of the principles of food hygiene.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to manage and respond to customer needs and feedback.
  • Working in target-driven/pressured environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working at a café/bar/pub;
  • Till operation and payment handling;
  • Knowledge of food and food service skills;
  • Computer skills.

Additional Information

This temporary role is for 16 hours a week and is expected to begin in early July and end on 30th September.

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make these roles permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term but this is not guaranteed.
