Job role:

Activate Learning are now looking for an inspiring and creative hairdressing teacher to join our hairdressing team at Reading College.
You will have the responsibility for delivering innovative teaching up to level 3. With your excellent subject knowledge and practice skills you will work collaboratively with our existing team of talented and passionate teachers to ensure we plan and deliver purposeful practical and theory lessons and participate in the curriculum development, meeting the needs of changing industry demands.

This is a part time role, working 18 hours per week (0.49 FTE), on a fixed term contract until July 2023. Due to ongoing timetabling the working pattern of these hours can have a degree of flexibility for the right applicant.

This role has the potential for some flexibility around the hours for the right applicant, so please specify this on your application form.

What do you need to be successful in this role?

The successful candidate will hold a teacher’s qualification or have experience of teaching within an education setting. You will also have an appropriate professional qualification including level 3 diploma in hairdressing. A & V awards for assessing and verification and some knowledge with working towards technical qualification or apprenticeships would both be desirable.

Whilst we would prefer applications from qualified teachers who hold a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification, we would consider applications from unqualified applicants, with the ability to inspire our learners and a willingness to complete a teaching qualification. Unqualified candidates would start at a lower salary point and this could be discussed at interview, if successfully shortlisted.

In addition, you will need to have a flexible approach, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. You will have an open mind-set and attitude towards technology and virtual learning tools. Along with current Maths and English skills, you will also demonstrate the ability to engage and develop students and role model the attributes that we develop within our learners.

What are the benefits of this role?

There really is no limit in terms of your personal growth, development and career by joining one of the largest Education Providers in the UK. You will have a comprehensive development program as part of induction together with peer to peer learning, a formal development plan and support at every step of the way to set you up for success.

We offer a buddy system, a digital induction module and a close-knit community of experts and leaders across the Group to support the sharing of best practice and encourage individual growth. We have extensive technology in place to develop digital capability and flexible working arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.
