HMP Whitemoor are recruiting for an innovative and confident Maths specialist to deliver Functional Skills Maths Classes 5 mornings a week. In addition to this core Maths delivery the expectation would be to teach other subjects in the afternoons (Mon-Thurs) to meet the contractual demands of the department - subjects such as, but not limited to, Business and Employability. Experience teaching other subjects would be beneficial but not essential, support would be given to develop in other subject areas alongside the Maths delivery, as long as you have a passion for teaching and a willingness to develop.

This is an exciting opportunity where you will be actively engaging prison-based learners with creative classes and resources. Many of the learners have a diverse range of needs and learning abilities, they will often have had a negative experience with education. As a successful Teacher, you will truly inspire them and provide learners with a positive learning experience.

We are seeking an individual who can communicate well with learners to inspire and motivate them. The average class consist of 8 learners and the sessions are approximately 3 hours long. You must be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of a changing regime.

Your lessons will need to be adaptable, innovative and imaginative.

About HMP Whitemoor:

HMP Whitemoor is a maximum-security prison for Category A and B men. The prison focuses on settlement (helping those convicted of serious offences to make positive use of long sentences) and resettlement (reducing the risk of reoffending through assessment, work, education and offending behaviour programmes).

HMP Whitemoor opened in 1991 and is part of the Long-Term High Security Estate and includes an Offender Personality Disorder Unit (OPDU).  This unit is part of the national DSPD Programme of the Health Partnerships Directorate, providing thorough assessment and a fully worked out treatment model. 

Whitemoor also houses a Close Supervision Centre (CSC). The unit prepares prisoners who pose a severe risk to others, to return to a normal prison environment.
