About RSPB Leighton Moss

Leighton Moss is a flagship RSPB reserve located in the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The reserve is home to some fantastic wildlife including marsh harriers, bittern and otters.  As part of the Welcome team you’ll be at the heart of the action, greeting some of our 100’000 visitors per year.  The memberships you and your team recruit will generate vital income which the RSPB can use to help save nature.

What's the role about?

As Membership Recruitment Manager you will be integral to the visitor operation at Leighton Moss, leading, inspiring and supporting a team of staff and volunteers to meet and greet visitors, enthusing them about the reserve and wildlife, and inspiring visitors to support the valuable work of the RSPB through membership.

You will work closely with members of the visitor operations team to maximise opportunities to gain visitor support through membership, whilst ensuring we achieve targets and other key performance indicators.

Benefits:

  • Opportunity to join a great team which is making a real difference and inspiring people to save nature;
  • Flexi-time and time off in lieu
  • 34 days’ annual leave (including 8 bank holidays (pro-rata));
  • An annual volunteer day either with the RSPB or another charity of your choosing;
  • 4 week paid sabbatical for every 5 years of service
  • 20% Discount at all RSPB retail outlets
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Free access to the RSPB Worker Assistant Programme

Key responsibilities include:

  • Using recognised leadership and performance management tools, build and develop (recruit, select, induct, train and performance manage) a team of membership recruiters (volunteers and staff) to achieve targets in volume and key performance indicators so that RSPB income and return on investment (RoI) is maximised.
  • Recruit new members on the reserve and at off-site events to achieve personal targets. The purpose of this is to generate income but also to lead from the front, demonstrating first-hand what can be achieved in both membership recruitment numbers and associated key performance indicators.  As a result, the wider reserve team should recruit more members, generating income for the RSPB and delivering a high level of return on investment for the RSPB.
  • Promote and support excellence in customer service so that non-members choose to join and existing members continue their supporter journey with the RSPB.
  • Working with the Visitor Experience team, to plan, organise and deliver events on site that will enthuse and inspire the general public about the RSPB’s work, ultimately leading to the recruitment of new members and other forms of support.
  • Using qualitative and quantitative data (including, but not limited to footfall, conversion rates, audience types, reception to RSPB offer etc) report and review performance regularly.
