Job role:

Activate Learning now have an exciting opportunity for a Careers Consultant to join our Careers Guidance team at Reading College.

You will be supporting young people to learn about the world of work and to plan their next steps.  The role is remarkably diverse: you could be delivering a Career Planning session and exploring different career routes, working with a student on their UCAS or Apprenticeship application, supporting students in their job search and application process and working with employers to add value to our Careers Education programme. Every day and all our students are different.

This is a varied and busy full-time role, working 37 hours per week and providing the full range of careers support. Part-time/job share could also be considered.

The role is predominately based at Reading campus with the potential of some cross campus delivery, as well as delivery of an external school Careers Guidance contract in Reading.

We are a great team so if you’d like an informal chat, please email Sally Cunningham (sally.cunningham@activatelearning.ac.uk) in the first instance.

What do you need to be successful in this role?

The successful candidate will have a L6 qualification in Careers Guidance and the ability to deliver high quality, impartial careers education and guidance through a variety of media, enabling customers to make well informed and realistic career choices.

Experience of delivering interactive group work sessions, 1-1 guidance interviews with SMART Action Plans and supporting young people into employment is essential, and a thorough knowledge of qualification types and routes and an understanding of the Gatsby benchmarks and the CDI framework is a distinct advantage.

The ability to develop effective relationships with students, staff, employers, and other external partners is central to the role and will assist our delivery of a varied careers education programme.

This is a busy and demanding role so excellent time management and the ability to work flexibility and to prioritise according to requirements is a must.
