Milton Keynes College Prison Services Team at HMP Winchester are seeking innovative Teachers/Support Staff to work with a diverse group of learners, helping to build their confidence, develop their skills and achieve within a college environment. The College are looking for candidates interested in variable/ad-hoc and permanent hours, who are keen to explore Prison Education.

 

HMP Winchester are currently looking for individuals with one or more of the below skillsets to support their curriculum delivery – Ability as a generalist teacher to cover more than 1 of these areas would be beneficial.

 

TEACHING ROLES

·       Functional Skills English - Entry to Level 2

·       Functional Skills Maths - Entry to Level 2

·       Vocational Tutors

 

NON-TEACHING ROLES

·       Learner Supporting roles/Information, Advice and Guidance – Promoting the benefits of education to learners inside the prison and encouraging them to enrol on courses with education. Confidence in engaging with a wide variety of people, good verbal and written communication. Patience and Empathy required, ability to complete written reports on time and to high standards

 

A teaching qualification would be desirable, however those willing to work towards a teaching qualification who hold supporting subject specialism or industry experience would also be considered - we can provide the training to help you achieve your full potential.

 

Prison education runs all year round, all day Monday-Thursday and until lunchtime on a Friday. Delivery hours vary slightly prison to prison but full days are split across 2 long lessons (Morning and Afternoon).

 

Milton Keynes College are offering potential candidates who possess suitable skills/experience the opportunity to visit prison for an open event. This will allow candidates to experience the environment and find out more about the day-to-day regime and expectations.

ABOUT HMP Winchester…

HMP Winchester is a Category B male local prison holding young adult and adult remand and convicted prisoners, serving the courts in Hampshire. It has an operational capacity of 685 spaces. There is a Category C resettlement unit, called Westhill, which holds 129 spaces. The Hearn unit, with 40 places, is a recent addition to Westhill and it houses Cat C and Cat D prisoners and those on ROTL. There is also a 24-hour healthcare in-patient facility with capacity for 10 prisoners.

 

Prison education runs all year-round, all-day Monday-Thursday and generally until lunchtime on a Friday. It operates in the main department, in Westhill and ins various other locations.
