If you have experience in video editing, a proven ability to manage and process large volumes of media, and a desire to watch hours and hours of beautiful wildlife footage then this could be the role for you.

What's the role about?

As Junior Video Editor, you will be responsible for turning unedited footage straight from the field into broadcast-quality video assets that are ready for use across the RSPB and beyond. Your work will be fundamental to the creative output of the whole organisation, the growth of our video library, and the promotion of our incredible wildlife archive around the world.

Your impressive organisational skills and experience with Adobe Premiere Pro will both be central to the role. Whether defining your own workflows or following the direction of others, you will be required to transform large volumes of new rushes into video assets that can help drive our work to save nature. 

What we need from you?

Essentials:

1. At least one year’s experience in editing video footage from a range of sources, preferably in natural history or documentary production environment or as a student of film.

2. A proven ability to assemble, edit and deliver consistent video outputs in a logical way, using insights from the field, whilst meeting specific technical specifications.

3. IT proficiency within a video production environment:

• • Expert knowledge of Mac OS
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Cloud apps (particularly Premiere Pro and Media Encoder, knowledge of After Effects would be beneficial but not essential)
  • Expert knowledge of key video editing processes (including organising premiere projects and editing, stabilising, colour grading and exporting footage from a timeline) as well as media asset workflows (including transcoding and backing-up media)

4. A detailed and proactive approach to managing video files from multiple different cameras, through each post-production phase and into long-term archiving. Specifically, you will have experience of offloading, tracking, and editing large volumes of newly-captured footage in a safe and efficient way.

5. The relevant knowledge to help develop policies and standards around video production and, alongside the Video Editor, to act as a technical adviser to internal and external stakeholders with regards processes, equipment, and software. 

6. An ability to work unsupervised and independently, exercising initiative and judgement.

7. Alongside a desire to proactively develop your own skills and capabilities, you will have the skills to support others (internal staff, commissioned agencies and production companies) in compiling, editing and delivering their own engaging content to an appropriate standard that is aligned to organisational priorities and on-brand. Central to this will be your experience of building strong working relationships that empower and inspire those around you to do their best.

Desirables:

1. Experience managing small projects or work programmes.

2. Knowledge of UK wildlife including identification of commons species and their habitats.

3. Experience working with media asset management systems or other video archive platforms.

4. Understanding of professional video editing structures including multi-edit workstations, video data storage architectures and network setups.

This is a Fixed-Term role for 37.5 hours per week. 

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
