We need temporary weekend Centre Assistants at our busy nature reserve. This unique role is varied, exciting and you will be required to work in all areas across the Visitor Centre at Titchwell Marsh. Immediate work is available so please apply.

Why is it exciting?

RSPB Titchwell Marsh attracts over 80,000 visitors each year and is home to some of Norfolk's incredible wildlife. We want to ensure that every visitor has a brilliant time at our busy nature reserve and wants to come back again and again – this is where you come in: We don’t just want the reserve and its wildlife to excite our visitors, we want our Visitor Centre Assistants to as well!

This is a rare but perfect opportunity for an outgoing person with experience in customer service and a growing passion for nature and conservation. You’ll have plenty of energy and a willingness to learn and develop as part of your role.

You will be working with a very friendly and supportive team of staff and volunteers, and you don’t need to be a bird or wildlife expert to apply, just a budding interest.

About the Role

We currently have a gap in our visitor team for weekends. We work on a rota system and you will have the opportunity to work across all areas of the visitor centre depending on where we need you. Full induction and training would be provided, with opportunities to learn about the running of a busy visitor centre, including event management, customer service and advertising.

Our customer care is a crucial part of what we do here, encouraging visitors to explore the reserve, and giving them a great visitor experience.

You will be able to communicate well with our visitors and offer excellent levels of customer care. Duties will primarily be working in our meet and greet operation, welcoming visitors to the reserve, giving out information, encouraging visitors to support our work and pointing out wildlife as it dashes by!

You will also support our café and retail teams, helping to serve customers, and undertaking other duties typical of a busy tourist operation.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Computer literate.
  • Enthusiastic approach to work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Experience of working at a catering environment/visitor attraction.
  • Knowledge of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of food and foodservice skills.
  • Till operation and payment handling.

Additional Information

Ideal candidates will be available to work at least 1-weekend shift per week (7.5 hours per shift), with opportunities for overtime. Minimum age 18. Fixed-term 12-months.

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
