We are looking for an instinctive and innovative people person, with bags of enthusiasm for wildlife and who has experience in delivering community engagement to work at our beautiful Mersehead Nature Reserve.

About RSPB Mersehead

Situated on the scenic north shore of the Solway coast, Mersehead is an extensive wetland and saltmarsh area, a haven for breeding waders, wintering waterfowl, and year-round bird and wildlife-watching. Spring is particularly magical when the wet meadows fill with lapwings and skylarks.

About the Role

The successful person will be based at RSPB Mersehead Dumfriesshire where they will work with community groups to develop community-based projects as well as managing our volunteers. The role will involve empowering individuals and groups to support conservation programmes and projects, not only within communities but at RSPB Mersehead as well. Much focus will be spent on themes such as wetlands, farmlands, and coastal environments including associated topics like recycling and climate change.

What we need from you:

Essential

•    Community engagement experience - ability to engage with a wide range of people face to face and delivering events to the public.
•    An excellent verbal communicator able to communicate RSPB messages in a way that is understood by a range of audiences enthuses people and engenders their support.
•    Good basic knowledge of South Scotland wildlife, habitats and key species (sufficient to be able to lead public engagement activities in a credible way and to train and motivate volunteers).
•    Events and project management experience.
•    Ability to work under own initiative.
•    Ability to drive/access remote locations.

Desirable

•    Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures.
•    Volunteer/staff recruitment and support experience.
•    Computer literacy - specifically with Microsoft Office.

Additional Information

This is a Fixed-Term, Part-Time role for 18.75 hours per week, until 31st March 2023. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
