Activate Learning are recruiting for a dedicated Lecturer of IT to join our team based at Reading Campus. This is a full-time and permanent position where you will be teaching the next generation of programmers and developers and making a positive impact on the lives of young people. You will be responsible for teaching IT at Level 2 and Level 3 level.

Our ideal candidate will possess a good working knowledge of mobile applications, web development and databasing. An understanding of programming constructs and concepts is essential, and knowledge of a language such as Python or Java would be beneficial. Confidence is the appropriate use and deployment of social media would also be beneficial but is not essential.

As this subject has a broad and fast developing curriculum, we are looking for an individual who has the desire to acquire and develop new skills as required for ongoing course development.

What do you need to be successful in this role?

Successful candidates will have an appropriate professional qualification or experience. Whilst we would prefer applications from qualified teachers who hold a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification, we would consider applications from unqualified applicants, with the ability to inspire our learners and a willingness to complete a teaching qualification. Unqualified candidates would start at a lower salary point and this could be discussed at interview, if successfully shortlisted.

In addition, you will need to have a flexible approach, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. You will demonstrate the ability to engage and develop students and role model the attributes that we develop within our learners.

What are the benefits of this role?

There really is no limit in terms of your personal growth, development and career by joining one of the largest Education Providers in the UK and you will be provided with support to excel in your role from the day you are appointed in post. With an experienced and expert mentor allocated to you, you will quickly learn about the culture and ethos of the Group and become an integral part of our teaching team. Your development will be supported through regular coaching conversations with your manager and peers, as well as a buddy system, digital induction modules and a close-knit community of experts across the Group to support the sharing of best practice and to encourage individual growth.

This will be supplemented by a more formal development plan that will provide support at every step of the way to set you up for success. We have extensive technology in place to develop digital capability and flexible working arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.

This post is supported by the Taking Teaching Further programme for a successful unqualified applicant. This means that you will undertake work shadowing and have a reduced teaching timetable for your first year to support your introduction into the organisation and your first year of teaching. You will also be supported to gain a teacher training qualification.
